This hat is very elastic.
I use rib k1 х p1 and short rows for shaping.
This pattern will make a hat that fits 6 month - 4 year old child.
Finish size 42 cm/16.5”, unstretched.

Materials
Yarn Alize Pure Wool Cashmire (300m/100g, 100% Merino) color A - 50 g, color B - 50g.
Needles US 4 - 3.5 mm Tapestry needle
Note
The amount of yarn stated in my pattern is an approximation +
some extra. The hat on the picture used 25 gr of both red and blue
yarns. Sometimes hat takes more yarn.
I would recommend to use a yarn that gives definition to ribbing stitches.
Please knit your first hat following my instructions. When you gain more confidence and understand the principle, you could change the size of the hat by changing number of stitches, thickens of yarn, and size of your needles.

Sample calculation:
- head circumference x 0.9 = hat width
- the height of big segments (parallelogram) (8 cm on chart) approximately equals to the hat width divided by 5
- the height of central small segments (parallelogram) (5 cm on chart) approximately equals to hat width divided by 10
- the length of the longest side of the segment (15 cm on chart) will be formed by knitting the first segment.
You may also use all the stash yarns to knit each segment.
Stitches used
k1 - knit 1
p1 - purl 1
sl - slip first stitch without knitting, make sure it’s not twisted
yo - yarn over
р2tog - purl 2 together
pt - purl yo twisted, so it doesn’t make a hole
